2nd Annual South Florida Jazz Summit

Alexander Lochard

What a wonderful experience I had when I visited the Jazzonian South Florida Jazz Summit that was presented on the weekend of January 14th and 15th, 2012.

On the 14th both my wife and I were privileged to enjoy the beautiful vocal expertise of María Rivas accompanied by Bobby Ramirez (saxophone, flute); Ivan Velasquez (drums); Jose Velasquez (bass); and Frnak Bello (piano).

How beautifully María’s voice blended with the expertise of the musicians that accompanied her on stage on that opening night of the Jazz Summit. I was also most impressed with the excellent quality of sound that the Bienes Center for the Arts offered its audience.

It was of such satisfaction that its atmosphere transported me to this magical world of wonders surrounded by the beautiful sound of Jazz. In the lobby I was very impressed with the great exhibition that not only did it look good but also gave each and every one of us a short history of Jazz greatest artist, composers and performers. It was just outstanding.

On the next day of my visit, for the continuation of my visit to the summit, I was most impressed with the very young talented jazz musicians. Truly they are of high quality and at such a young age. Truly these young jazz musicians are blessed to be involved with such a great organization such as Jazzonian.

Jazzonian give these young musicians the opportunity to develop themselves in their playing and creativity plus it’s the true place for them to get exposed to the community. Best of all they are awarded for their very hard work and dedication thanks to the Jazzonian Youth Scholarship Fund.

This is an excellent mechanism to further motivate these young talented musicians to continue their studies in the field of music. They inspire other young musicians to come and participate.

I felt much honored to meet such great musicians during that weekend. It was also an honor to meet Bobby Ramirez who is the Founder and President of Jazzonian and the South Florida Jazz Summit. He is a cool spirited man that reflects his love for Jazz and its development in South Florida.

He is also an inspiration for those musicians that can see his vision and mission. He is also a great guide to all young musicians who inspire to become great leaders for the coming future. I feel privileged to have discovered this great man and this great organization.
